The blend between South African & French cuisine was spectacular, but the service had some mistakes (8.9/10 rating).
The food was spectacular and makes the experience worth the amount paid. The dishes are packed with exploding flavours and are presented perfectly, combining elegance with theater on each plate.
Although the staff were extremely attentive, there were a few mistakes. Received the wrong champagne (white instead of rose), waiter spilled the remainder of the amuse bouche on the table cloth when cleaning the plate(stone), the cheese course could have been explained better, we asked for and did not receive the aperitif menu.
I would still highly recommend the experience, the South African influence on the food is assertive and extremely pleasing on the palate.
This was one of the most wonderful meals I’ve ever had, and such a treat during my trip to Nice! I was blown away by the creativity of the dishes, and the thoughtfulness behind the entire meal. The cheese room was spectacular. Highly recommend!
Just back from our second time here at Jan and wow what an incredible dining experience. The creativity and quality of the dishes as well as the attention to detail on every level just blew us away. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
I had a very nice time at Jan. The food was amazing and the sommelier was very friendly. The bobotie two ways was my favorite! I think there needs to be more explanation of the cheeses and wine pairing in the cheese room. It would help tie the whole experience together.
One of the most thoughtful, original, and interesting meals I’ve ever had. The inspired menu is derived from multiple South Africa dishes and flavors. Some are deconstructed and some preserved in their original format. The palette is quite different from traditional French cuisine, but the chef worked some real magic to blend the two. Service was pleasant, polite, and refined. The non-alcoholic pairing is quite interesting and a nice departure from the wine pairing offered in this type of setting. The cheese table is something I’ve never experienced anywhere else. Highly recommended experience.
Best dinner experience to date and perfect place to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniv. Seats only 20. Tasting menu features South African cuisine, using only local and seasonal ingredients to Cote’d Azur.
All of the dishes were incredible thoughtful and flavorful. There is even a cheese course where you go across the street to a spread of 91 plates to commemorate the chef’s grandmother who lived to 91. A unique and whimsical dinner. We opted for the 7 courses without the wine pairing (bottle of Jan red blend instead) and left quite full but not so much that we could not walk home :) Excellent value for the experience and could not be more worthy of a Michelin!
Presentation is just knockout, with flavors to match. And the visit to the cheese store was an incredible highlight. An absolutely stunning meal to remember.
